Roseau

We sailed down the coast of Dominica to Roseau in the south. The shore is very steep to there and we took a mooring buoy (which was so deep down that there was no way to check it). The anchorage was very rolly and the town itself in some decay.

We visited the local botanical garden which sadly has very little to offer as it was pretty much destroyed in the hurricane of 1979 (spot the bus crushed by a fallen tree) and has not really been re-established. Some of the bigger old trees are still very majestic.

Part of the park is a cricket ground and we watched some of our first cricket in the Caribbean – the ground was very grassy and slow but the game was played with great passion and was entertaining.
