Irma Damage

Very sad the impact that Hurricane Irma had. We were fortunate to be on Windward, well informed as to the weather and hurricane threats and able to sail to protected positions.

Others were not so lucky.

Dominica was nailed and the pictures show how the mountainside vegetation has been devastated and massive erosion resulted.

Ian, who we met in St. Maarten, was in his house (just below the frazzled palm tree) during the hurricane impact and witnessed first the northwest side of his house being blown away and then, after the eye had passed, the southeast side going.

The images from around the island (St Maarten/St Martin) speak for themselves.

The Likkewaan looks on impassively and the brave locals rebound, rebuild and repaint and get themselves back on their feet.
